Day 1

First stop was at White River Falls State Park.

After White River Falls we found this free campsite on BLM land outside the town of Mitchell, Oregon.

Day 2

Day two started with a trip to the Painted Hills.

Very Close to the Painted Hills is the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

After a stop in Burns for burgers, we drove another 2 hours to Fields, Oregon.

Day 3

This is the Alvord Desert Playa next to the Steens Mountains.

Then we started back to Portland.

On the way back to Portland we stopped by Shaniko, a preserved "ghost town" in Central Oregon.

Outside Portland, we saw Mt. Hood and another wonderful sunset.
